Why It's Necessary

The misconception that massage therapy is no more than just a luxury is still very prevelant in society. Some people believe that massage therapy and reflexology are either an indulgence for the wealthy or a "treat" for special occasions. Most therapists have some clients who only come in once a year, usually for a birthday or special holiday.

I have also encountered clients who have been influenced by others and made to feel guilty about spending money on a massage session of any frequency. These clients seem to think of massage therapy as a frivolity they don't deserve. They will say: "I try to explain the benefits I get from massage therapy or reflexology to my spouse (friend, co-worker, family member, etc.), but all they can focus on is the money being spent on a "luxury." If your tooth is hurting, you go to the dentist. If your muscles are weak, you go to a physical therapist to strengthen them. If they are sore, knotted, tight, hurting or causing you pain, you need to go to a muscle specialist, a massage therapist, to address the soft tissue aspect of your pain.

Admittedly, massage therapy has a monetary cost, but that should be weighed against the benefits of the treatment--decreased pain, diminished stress, improved moods, resolution of health issues, and more. There is usually a way to budget for massage therapy or reflexology with a bit of reprioritizing. "You are the Priority!" There's a budget whether you include prescription drugs for pain, anxiety, mood issues, stress, sleeplessness, etc., or you include effective, natural alternatives.

With the expanded recognition of our services in the medical realm, massage therapy and reflexology are definitely shedding their former perception as a luxury and embracing their new role as a necessity!

The bottom line that we share with our clients is, whether you have pain and discomfort or not, you can benefit from massage and reflexology. In addition to being effective for pain relief, our techniques are also beneficial for stress-reducing and wellness measures. In reality, massage and reflexology are fast becoming integral parts of an overall healthcare plan.

Feng Shui Tip of the Month

Open Bedroom Windows Daily: Opening your windows for at least 20 minutes a day allows fresh Chi from outside to come into your bedroom. Making this part of your daily routine can attract good fortune to you. Remember to do this or you will be sleeping with stale Chi at night. And nevermind if dusts comes in...the great fortune you can expect will far exceed the time it takes to clean!

The Power of Bodywork

Getting a massage can do you a world of good. And getting massage therapy frequently can do even more. The emotional balance bodywork provides can often be just as important and valuable as the more tangible physical benefits.

Medical experts estimate that more than 80% of disease is stress related. And they say nothing ages us faster. An hour of massage does more than just ease the pressures of your day. Research continues to prove there are enormous therapeutic benefits from touch, just some of which include:
  • Reduced anxiety and stress relief
  • Improved posture
  • Reduced muscle tension
  • Pain relief
  • More restful sleep
  • Improved circulation and healthier joints
  • Increased energy and reduced fatigue
  • Quicker recovery from illness and injury
  • Fewer headaches
  • Improved outlook on life
Like a well-balanced healthy diet, consider massage therapy appointments a necessary piece of your wellness and disease-prevention plan. Invest in your health.

Yoga for Your Hands

Mudras are easy yoga movements that involve only the arms and hands. Practice these ancient healing motions to enrich your life in as little as 3 minutes a day.

Mudra for Strong Nerves
This mudra will strengthen your nerves and can help soothe earaches or vertigo. Sit with a straight spine and lift your left hand to ear level, palm facing out. Make a circle with your thumb and middle finger, and straighten the other fingers. Your right hand should be held in front of your waist, with your thumb and little finger touching and palm facing up. Note: The position of the hands is reversed for men (so the right hand is held at ear level). Breathe long, deep and slow. Repeat for a few minutes and observe the energizing current that will keep your nerves and body strong and grounded.

Bust Work Stress: Tips for Feeling Better

Letting stress build up at work can lead to tension and irritability and can even cause you to dislike an otherwise interesting job. Here are some suggestions to better manage the effects of stress.

  • Pace yourself. Keep your expectations of yourself and co-workers realistic and don't make a habit of putting in extra hours. If you find yourself trying to meet unrealistic expectations, learn to distance yourself emotionally or take up a physically demanding sport.
  • Set boundaries. Accept that you can only do so much and give yourself wholeheartedly to that. Be willing to say "no."
  • Take breaks to get away. Don't ignore your coffee break. If you don't drink coffee, take a brisk walk or do a few simple stretches.
  • Take time for yourself to review and evaluate the big picture. Listen to your inner voice about what's important and what's not.
  • Laugh. Find the humor in your life. Watch funny movies and be willing to laugh at yourself.

Shiatsu Self Massage

Need to improve your energy level? Try this Shiatsu massage technique to enhance your fresh energy. Shiatsu is an ancient Japanese art based on the same philosophy as Accupuncture. Your energy channels can be stimulated by finger pressure. The yellow colored dots represent the approximate location of the pressure points used to reduce headaches and pain, as well as improve your energy.
